Volunteers Sought

Can you believe it was more than 50 years that Cinco Bayou was incorporated as a Town? It all happened on July 3, 1950. Times sure have changed. We’ve got more businesses than cows now, but the small town feel is still there.

The Town Council is asking for volunteers to put together a celebration to mark the town’s next big anniversary. We need a great idea and a committed organizer to pull it all together. Some ideas so far have been a festival featuring local artisans and food tasting from local restaurants. Or how about a boat parade? Fireworks? Fish fry? Antique car show? We’d love to hear your input.

If you are interested in heading up the celebration committee please call Nell Webb at 833-3405 by April 1, 2008.

The Council meets the second Thursday of each month and the public is invited to attend. If you would like to have an item considered for the agenda, contact Nell Webb at least one week prior to the meeting.

From your Town Manager, Nell Webb.

We are already into the second month of the New Year.  How time flies.  In the past few months the Town has had several changes.  The town was approved for a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) in the amount of $600,000.00 for Commercial Revitalization along the Eglin Corridor.  The engineers have done the survey work and are working on the design work.  The project should take about two years to complete.

The town has purchased a commercial generator as part of our Disaster Preparedness Plan.  The town hall will be used as a distribution center after a disaster.

The town has completed the Evaluation Appraisal Report of the town’s Comprehensive Plan as required by the Florida Department of Community Affairs and submitted it for approval.

The town council has directed the town’s Engineer to design a plan to replace and extend the existing seawall in Frances Park to prevent continued erosion of the shoreline and to prevent the loss of the large pine trees along the shore.  Request for RFQ’s will be noticed in the local newspaper after council approval.  This project should be completed before the hurricane season starts.

The town’s millage rate was reduced from 2.3000 mills per $1,000 of property value to 2.0639 mills per $1,000 of property value.  The audit for 2006/2007 fiscal year is complete and the town is reported in a good sound financial condition and in compliance with State and Federal requirements.

Just a reminder…

Dog may be man’s best friend…but under Town and County ordinances they must be under the owner’s control at all times…this goes for cats too!

Love your animal – use a leash!
