EGLIN PARKWAY COORIDOR PROJECT

In 2002 the Town Council of Cinco Bayou recognized the need to plan for future projects that would help support and energize the commercial areas of the Town.  In order to provide a mechanism for funding, a Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) was established to, in part, support and implement the revitalization efforts for our downtown commercial area.

The Town will be making improvements along Eglin Parkway, which is its main commercial corridor.  The improvements will continue with a design theme that was started just beyond its southern corporate limits at the Uptown Station.  The project area will start at Hughes Avenue and run approximately 850 linear feet along with the West side of Eglin Parkway to the North.  Phase I is expected to end at Irwin Avenue, due to budget limitations.  This phase of the project proposes to relocate approximately 850 linear feet of utilities to underground and provide 850 linear feet of sidewalks and landscaping.  The Town has additional commercial revitalization needs along Eglin Parkway, which continues along the project route to the Town’s northern CRA limits, Yacht Club Drive.  The Town’s desire is to continue this project in phases until both sides of Eglin Parkway are completely revitalized.

The Town, through its CRA, received a Small Cities Community Development Block Grant, targeted at commercial revitalization.  These are state and federal dollars made available on a competitive basis to Florida municipalities.  The Town was very pleased to be selected to receive the grant.  Plans have now been completed for the commercial corridor improvements and the Town is ready to begin the bidding process for the selection of a contractor.

The proposed relocation of utilities to underground will require the joint cooperation of certain property owners where some underground utility easements will be necessary.  The Town is funding this project with the grant funds and CRA funds and is not requesting any additional financial contributions from property owners.  You are an important partner with the Town to bring this commercial revitalization project to reality.   If you have any questions, please call the Town Hall office at 850-833-3405.

Just a reminder…

Dog may be man’s best friend…but under Town and County ordinances they must be under the owner’s control at all times…this goes for cats too!
